William K. Vanderbilt’s 24-room Moroccan-style “Eagles Nest” mansion sits on 43 acres overlooking Northport Harbor. The site features Vanderbilt’s collections, marine and wildlife specimens, a Planetarium with a 60-foot sky theater projected with 11,369 stars, and an observatory with a 16-inch, 860 power reflecting telescope. The planetarium is temporarily closed for renovations and a complete technological update. It will reopen in mid-October 2012.  Everything else is open and available to visitors.  Fee. 180 Little Neck Rd. Open year-round, Tue.-Fri. noon-4 p.m.; Sat. 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sun. noon-5 p.m. Closed Mondays (631) 854-5555
